THE JOINT
The Joint Bar in London’s highly desirable Marylebone area, contacted us about fitting out their premises with high quality and hardwearing furniture. Their wants and needs aligned very closely to the core products we offer, namely our recycled scaffold board and pipe furniture. These are big, chunky statement pieces with excellent durability that create a truly unique and individual atmosphere.
Whilst we are by no means the only company that produces such pieces, ours use festool domino joints, ensuring durability and giving a continuous flat surface for high-traffic areas like bars and restaurants. Compare these to just recycled scaffolding boards crudely screwed together, which we see all over the place, and there is no real competition! We love the fact that no two boards are the same; they are individual and need to be treated as such, which involves more work but gives a fantastic finished product.
WHAT WAS THE CLIENT AFTER?
The stripped back industrial look they had planned is such a close match to what we do, we wanted to be involved in this project. However the size of The Joint Bar meant they needed very large trestle tables and matching benches with holes for beer coolers in the centre. In addition, round high tables for their basement bar and a long high table for window seating at the front of the shop was needed.
The Joint’s vision was almost complete when they involved us; they knew exactly how they wanted it to look and feel but the timescale was a slightly different matter. From the first phone call we had only seven weeks to create, transport and build everything. We knew it would be tight. However, we pride ourselves on planning and delivering in the agreed timescale. If we say we can do it, we will.
THE CHALLENGE
There were a couple of issues with the venue. The first was the logistics. Several large pieces were to be housed down a narrow flight of stairs in the basement area. This meant we had to completely dismantle and reassemble those pieces several times to ensure they were exactly where they needed to be. The second major issue was the timescale; in such a short time we knew that completing everything would be tight and therefore we pulled out all of the stops, building during the evenings and over the weekends to stick to our deadline. It was literally all hands on deck to get our client what they wanted and needed from us. We tidied away all of the rubbish, not just expecting that to be taken care of by someone else. For us, these kind of touches are the difference between providing a great service and a mediocre one. We don’t want our client to feel that there was anything we could have done better.
THE RESULT
Once the different areas were finished they looked truly amazing, like the perfect showroom. We’ve been glad to hear over the last few months that The Joint Bar are finding the furniture meets their needs perfectly and is living up to their expectations.
The craftsmanship of our furniture is what really sets us apart and it is what our clients praise us on time and time again.
In working with The Joint Bar, we understood how important it was that the opening was exactly how they planned it. They have been genuinely happy with the speed of service and complementary about all of the products we have provided. For us, it was great to work with a young, exciting and vibrant business in an up and coming area of London. During the time we got involved, they were getting noticed by famous TV chefs and receiving awards for their food and premises; it was an exciting time to be partnering with them. They plan to open another restaurant in the Battersea power station development and will be coming to us for the furniture there too; we can’t wait to work with them again.
